Back bacon is leaner, while streaky bacon is thinner and contains more fat. Both varieties cook rapidly and can be eaten for breakfast, stacked onto pancakes, or sliced and incorporated to other meals. See our guide for a variety of cooking techniques and advice.

Bacon preparation in a frying pan:

In a frying pan, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable or sunflower oil and heat over medium-high heat until heated. Depending on how crispy you want it, add the bacon and fry it for two to four minutes on each side.

How to cook bacon without oil:

Transfer the bacon to a nonstick skillet and place it over medium heat. Depending on how crispy you like your bacon, turn up the heat and fry it for one to three minutes on each side as the fat begins to drain from it.

Turn the grill up to its highest temperature. Place the bacon on a foil-lined baking pan.

Depending on how crispy you want it, grill for two to four minutes on each side.

How to cook bacon in the oven:

While baking bacon takes a bit longer than grilling or frying, the process is far more hands-off and yields excellent results. There are several approaches you can take.

Just baked:

To bake bacon in the oven on a tray:

Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C) and gas 6. Drizzle a nonstick tray with a little oil, then arrange the bacon in a single layer, crumbly or not.

When the bacon is done and the fat is crisp around the edges, bake it for ten to fifteen minutes, turning it halfway through with tongs.

Cooked using a rack:

A slightly better way of cooking bacon in the oven is achieved by using an ovenproof rack, which lets the fat drip off and cooks the bacon evenly.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C) and gas 6.

Place the rack on a tray, arrange the bacon on it in a single layer, and bake for ten to fifteen minutes, or until the bacon is cooked and the fat is crisp around the edges. You don't need to flip it.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°F for fans) or gas 6. Line a baking sheet that is non-stick with greaseproof paper.

Arrange the uneven bacon in a single layer, place another greaseproof sheet on top, followed by another baking sheet, a heavy casserole dish, or an ovenproof frying pan to press it down.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until crisp.Keeps for two days in a plastic lidded container.

How to use an air fryer to cook bacon:

Air fryers are an excellent appliance for making crispy bacon.

After preheating the air fryer to 180°C, arrange the bacon rashers in the basket in a single layer.

Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping once if necessary, or until the edges are cooked and crispy.
